Arc Flash Explosion In Congo Results In 200 Deaths and 1500 Injured

What appears to have been an arc flash explosion set off additional explosions in a munitions storage facility and barracks in the Congo.  There are conflicting reports, but what appears to have happened is that an arc flash in a barracks resulted in a fire that spread to the area where munitions were stored.  The exploding munitions resulted in most of the fatalities and injuries, which included civilians in the surrounding area.

The news web site reports:

"The series of five explosions at the barracks was caused by an electrical short circuit, according to Bienvenue Okemi, spokesperson for the government."
